Muddyum is a Pakistani-Italian American designer and illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. After getting her MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design she moved to Brooklyn, NY to pursue her dreams of having her own greeting card company. Inspired by everyday objects, typography, puzzles and puns Muddyum has created fun and clever greeting cards that use minimal line and incorporate handmade type. The story of Muddyum began when Maryam Choudhury started out designing greeting cards and handmade gifts for her friend’s birthdays in middle school. She never liked buying or receiving store bought cards that someone else made. Back then she knew she wanted to create her brand under the name of Muddyum because it is a fun play on letters and it is the phonetical pronunciation of her name. Muddyum’s work has been featured in Communication Arts, Creative Quarterly, Society of Newspaper Design, The New York Times and Steve Heller and Gail Anderson’s book New Modern Type. Through her greeting cards, Muddyum hopes to brighten someone’s day and inspire people to do pursue their childhood dreams.
